Indonesia Gondola Shelving Project: 3×40HQ Repeat Supply for a Retail Contractor
High-quality gondola shelving system for modern supermarkets
This customer case study demonstrates how WZ Rack, a supermarket shelving manufacturer, supplied a complete gondola shelving system for an Indonesian retail contractor through three 40HQ container shipments. The project included single-sided wall shelving, double-sided gondola shelving and matching endcap shelving designed for a modern supermarket layout.
Consistent production quality is critical for repeat supermarket shelving orders. Each shipment for this project was completed in approximately 7–14 working days, including production, quality inspection, packing and container loading.

What Did the Indonesian Retail Contractor Need?
Retail project contractors usually require a coordinated supermarket shelving solution rather than purchasing individual shelving units. In this Indonesia project, the customer required a repeatable mixed-product package suitable for container shipments and retail fit-out projects.
The project combined multiple supermarket shelving systems to maximize merchandising flexibility while maintaining consistent specifications across repeat orders.
The confirmed requirements included:
- single-sided shelving for perimeter display runs;
- double-sided gondola shelving for central aisles;
- matching endcap units for the ends of gondola runs;
- a 900 mm section width across the system;
- compact 1,500 mm double-sided units and taller 1,800 mm wall units;
- wire-mesh back panels;
- red uprights with white shelves and mesh panels;
- five shelf levels, including the base shelf;
- load testing under a uniformly distributed load; and
- consistent dimensions, colors and components across repeat shipments.
A complete store layout drawing is helpful but not always required before quotation. WZ Rack prepared the mixed shelving configuration according to the confirmed specifications and shipment quantities.
What Gondola Shelving Configuration Did WZ Rack Supply?
The project combined three commercial supermarket shelving systems to satisfy different merchandising functions inside the same retail store.
Double-Sided Gondola Shelving
Double-sided gondola shelving is commonly used for central supermarket aisles because it provides product access from both sides while maximizing display capacity.
The double-sided gondola sections were designed for central retail aisles. Each section was 900 mm wide, 1,500 mm high and 760 mm deep overall. Both sides used a 350 mm base shelf and 300 mm upper shelves.
The lower 1,500 mm profile provides merchandise capacity without creating an unnecessarily tall visual barrier across the central sales area. Wire-mesh panels keep the structure visually open while providing a consistent back system for the shelves.This configuration is widely used in supermarkets, grocery stores, retail chains and wholesale stores.
Single-Sided Wall Shelving
The single-sided wall sections were 900 mm wide, 1,800 mm high and 410 mm deep overall. They used the same 350 mm base shelf and 300 mm upper-shelf depth as the gondola configuration.
Using a taller wall unit allows the perimeter to provide additional vertical display capacity while maintaining the same 900 mm modular width as the central gondola sections.
Matching Endcap Sections
Endcap shelving increases product visibility by creating promotional display space at the end of gondola aisles. The endcaps followed the double-sided gondola section dimensions but used a single display face. This allowed the contractor to complete each gondola run with a consistent red-and-white finish and a dedicated promotional display position.
Wire-Mesh Back Panels and Powder-Coated Finish
Wire-mesh back panels were selected as a customer-specified customization. The open-grid construction reduces the visual weight of the shelving and makes it easier to maintain sightlines through retail aisles.
All three shipments used the same color combination: red uprights with white shelves and white wire-mesh panels. Maintaining the same component dimensions and powder-coated finish across the follow-up order was essential for compatibility with the first shipment.

***UDL means uniformly distributed load. The stated project rating applies to the confirmed 900 mm shelf dimensions, steel specification and support configuration. It should not be interpreted as a universal rating for every 0.6 mm shelf or for concentrated point loads.
How Was Each 40HQ Container Configured?
Container loading efficiency is an important consideration for wholesale supermarket shelving exports because it directly affects shipping costs.
Each 40HQ shipment was organized around 19 repeated mixed-product packages. According to the confirmed order configuration, each package contained:
- 11 single-sided wall shelving sections;
- 24 double-sided gondola shelving sections; and
- 6 matching endcap sections.

How Did WZ Rack Control Quality and Verify Load Capacity?
After the specification was confirmed, each 40HQ batch required approximately 7–14 working days for production, inspection, packing and loading.
Quality control for the confirmed configuration focused on:
- checking the 900 mm component dimensions;
- verifying upright and shelf steel specifications;
- checking the wire-mesh panels and welded joints;
- confirming consistent red and white powder-coated surfaces;
- matching brackets, shelves, uprights and back panels;
- assembling the confirmed configuration for dimensional checks; and
- conducting load testing using a uniformly distributed load.
How Were the Shelves Packed and Loaded?
The shelving was disassembled and packed by component type to use container space efficiently and reduce the risk of surface damage during handling. Long components and cartons were separated and supported inside the container, while the loading team used a forklift to position packaged components.

Why Did the Contractor Place a Repeat Order?
The strongest commercial result of this project was the follow-up purchase itself. WZ Rack first supplied one 40HQ container. Approximately two months later, the contractor ordered two additional 40HQ containers with the same shelving configuration and color combination.
WZ Rack cannot attribute the repeat order to one factor without a published customer quotation. The repeat purchase does, however, provide direct evidence that the contractor continued with the confirmed product configuration and supply arrangement instead of treating the initial container as a one-off purchase.
Across the three shipments, WZ Rack maintained:
- the same 900 mm module width;
- the same single-sided, double-sided and endcap combination;
- the same red-and-white powder-coated finish;
- the same shelf and upright specifications; and
- the same packing identification logic for the mixed components.

What This Project Demonstrates for Contractors and Large Buyers
- Container-volume mixed-product supply
Large retail projects rarely require only one shelving type. WZ Rack can combine wall shelving, central gondola sections and matching endcaps within a coordinated bulk order. - Consistent specifications are essential for supermarket chain expansion and repeat procurement.
For contractors managing phased projects, replacement work or follow-up store requirements, dimensional and color consistency matters as much as initial price. The two-container follow-up order was produced to the same confirmed specification as the first shipment. - Competitive configuration without abandoning verification
The buyer placed strong emphasis on commercially competitive pricing. The final configuration combined a 0.6 mm shelf specification with 1.2 mm uprights, a 900 mm span and project-specific UDL testing. This allowed price and performance to be considered together rather than treating steel thickness as the only purchasing criterion. - Short production cycles help contractors complete supermarket projects on schedule.
Each container batch was produced, checked, packed and loaded in approximately 7–14 working days after specification confirmation. Ocean transit time is not included in this production cycle.

What Should a Large Buyer Include in a Shelving RFQ?
Providing complete project information helps supermarket shelving manufacturers prepare faster and more accurate quotations.
A bulk gondola shelving quotation should include the required section width, shelving heights, shelf depths, load per shelf, back-panel type, colors, quantities by shelving type, destination port and required delivery date.
If you are a retail contractor, distributor, importer or supermarket chain planning a container-volume order, WZ Rack can review a mixed package of single-sided wall shelving, double-sided gondola shelving and endcaps. A product drawing or written specification is enough to begin an initial review when a complete store floor plan is not yet available.
Our team can help you prepare a compatible combination of single-sided wall shelving, double-sided gondola shelving and endcaps for quotation and production review.
